Ingredients:

For the yellow cake:

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

2 ½ teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 ¼ cups milk

For the chocolate frosting:

1 ½ cups unsalted butter, softened

4 cups powdered sugar

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

¼ cup milk (or more if needed)

Instructions:

For the yellow cake:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients, mixing well after each addition.

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

For the chocolate frosting:

In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.

Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, alternating with the milk. Mix well after each addition, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.

Stir in the vanilla extract and continue to beat until the frosting is smooth and fluffy. Add more milk if needed to achieve the desired consistency.

Assembly:

Place one cooled cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of chocolate frosting over the top.

Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining chocolate frosting. Use a spatula or knife to create a smooth and even surface.

Decorate the cake as desired with additional frosting, sprinkles, or chocolate shavings.

Slice and serve the yellow cake with luscious chocolate frosting to delight your taste buds and satisfy your sweet cravings.
